Front gardens and driveways
The wide frontages around Preston and Clifton mean driveway work is a bigger part of what we do in Paignton than elsewhere in the bay. Tarmac and resin-bound both work well here, provided the excavation and the sub-base are right and surface water has somewhere legitimate to go.
Where a front garden is being converted to parking we set the levels so water drains to a permeable area or a drainage channel rather than straight out onto the pavement.
Long rear gardens with nothing in them
A lot of the post-war housing here has a long rectangle of lawn and very little else. Those gardens respond well to being broken into zones: a terrace by the house, a path, a planted middle and something useful at the far end, whether that is a garden room, a deck or a raised bed scheme.
