Wet ground, and what it means for a build
On the marsh side of the village the ground stays damp for much of the winter. A patio laid on that without a free-draining sub-base and a genuine fall will sink, hold water and green over faster than almost anywhere else we work.
So we dig deeper where the ground demands it, use a sub-base that drains, and route surface water to a soakaway sited where it can actually disperse rather than to the nearest low corner of the lawn.
New estates and converted property
The newer housing off Sannerville Way and around Deepway Lane comes with the usual builder's legacy: a thin layer of topsoil over compacted subsoil, grass that struggles and water that sits. Those gardens need the ground opening up before anything is planted or laid.
Devington Park is a different job again, where the setting and the existing stonework steer the choice of materials as much as the client's taste does.
